Was anybody out in Guyane 1987-89 when Brit mercs were operating with the "Jungle Commmando"? I was told 1 or 2 Legion guys went awol to join them? One of the Brit mercenaries was John Richards who said he was aformer Sgt in the REP mid 1970s and served at Kolwezi the other was Karl Penta (ex Legion?). Richards was killed in Surinam, did any of you guys meet them

I met Penta when I was out there from 90-92. I also remember another ex-Legionnaire that got out in 90 and I saw him out in St Laurent a few months later and he was working with the "Jungle Commandos".

Karl Penta is an associate of mine. Last year he was in Iraq. Now he is not in good health and working in the UK but not in security. He is an o.k.guy. I spoke to him 4 days ago.
(Coincidence):D If anyone wants to contact him PM me and I will ask him if he is prepared to talk to them. He is quite open and above board and has nothing to hide.:)

Gomo,
Karl never served in the FFL or the British Armed forces. No way. And
certainly not ex RM. Currently he is suffering from high blood pressure.
His last employer in Iraq was Aegis some 18 months ago.

Hi,
I was out there at the time, I originally gave Richards the contact when he bumped into me in a Spanish Legion Barracks in Rhonda. They went over when I soldiered on, eventually I was there in 89 and that was when things went terribly wrong for Richards. The Jungle commando had struck a deal with Bouterse and Richards and the gang went off to hit the Toucahana <sp> Indians, instead they hijacked a bus load of mine workers and whacked a lot of soldiers who were having a kip. Subsequently the plane that flew them back, tried to divert to Albina, they sussswed out what was going on and used vigorous methods to pursuade the pilot to take them to Moengo (our base). When they got there they did not take the hints about a vehicle being fuelled up and ready to go etc. and all sorts of shit happened.
He was never a Sgt. anywhere and he allegedly deserted from Calvi in the late 70's. Penta (not real name) was a nobody, he also allegedly tried to get some of us killed in Yugoslavia but that is another story and will never be told. Charlie was legit although I did not see him on my tour, he was a no bullshit genuine guy another one of the REP guys was genuine (G. B.).

Hmm,
I have just remembered, a couple of Belgians went AWOL in 87/88 and headed for Surinam, they eneded up getting whacked by the Libyan advisors who were lurking in the "coin".

Karl Penta is his real name and he lives quite openly using it.
His book was ghost written and was bullshit. He made no
money from it. Had he been as cold blooded as some idiots
make out Aegis would never have employed him. I have a
copy of his reference from them. Finally he is totally loyal
and we have friends in common like 'Mad Jerry' who bombed
a military establishment with me from a Jackaroo flown from
Thruxton. Toilet rolls I hasten to say.The madness of youth.

One last Q: And I will drop the subject (must be boring for those not interested sorry) Did the mercs work with the knowlege of the French security services, and the Legion who patroled the border
Q: A member said Penter had never served in the UK forces/Legion, Why did the Brit security company Aegis who only employ special forces recruit him??(but there is a photo of him in the french magazine RAIDS with a Marines Beret/insignia it says he was a former SBS??)
Q:Richards ex REP was killed in a contact with Surinam security forces.?..if he was awol from the Legion would the french let him work in Guyana??? any info

Gomo,
Aegis do not employ only previous SF personnel. Their employees come from
various backgrounds.Since you claim to know Charles M, I suggest you now
address all questions to him. I now remain very circumspect about your
peculiar interest in this subject matter.

I was out there then, Ronnie Brunswcks so called "Jungle Commando" were a badly trained, badly disciplined rabble of thugs who spent most of their time beating up and stealing from unarmed villagers.
The article in RAIDS was copied from one in Soldier of Fortune. The twonks in the article were not mercenarys, they weren't even paid, Brunswick didn't have any money, they were tourists hamming it up for the camera.
Clowns like this give mercenaries a bad name and you know how protective they are of their corporate image.
There was a German Legionnaire who had deserted from Kourou and joined Ronnie and his twonks, we were told that if we saw him in a Jungle Commando pirogue on the Maroni we could shoot him, unfortunately he hid in the woods over the river so no one got the chance.
And to answer thingumybobs question Ronnies antics were in no way condoned or supported by the French. Surinam is an independant country. (former Dutch Guyana for anyone who gives a toss) the French Govt. did not have a mandate to carry out cross border actions, they merely through us, protected the French Guyanese border.
Interestingly enough the place my section was based was called Aeroplane Conde, what a funny name.
Can't wait to tell my great grandchildren about all of this, they will be enthralled.

Many thank's Serge its just a part of history I'm researching, many of the Twonks lead by John Richards exSgt REP on his last tour before he was killed were from the REP the other half were ex Marines (US or Brit not to sure) again cheers for your input:eek:
