In 1949 a proposal was put forward for the formation of a British Foreign Legion using Polish and Czech soldiers who had fought with the British during WW2. This idea was put to one side, following the increase of National Service (Draft) in 1950 to two years + 4 years TA or R.

Demob from a serving unit was not the same as discharge from military service. So until you receive a letter from the authorities you could be recalled at any time.

Would've been interesting. Britain had tonnes of foreigners fighting within her armed forces during ww2. Especially a large number of poles.

yeah... i believe they had a lot of foreigners too in the Royal Pioneers. Even some German Jews who fled Germany. doing mainly manuel building work. working with the Engineers. The poles helped a lot with pilots too as in the Battle of Britain & having airborne troops too. yep...good people the poles.

oh aye the Black watch had a reputation. Remember being on a driving course was a lot of paras there.. not a peep out them because there was a lot of scottish infantry there. they got a good kicking in the Naffi bar one night.

As If we left you the choice
For your information little caporal there were many good units in the British army and still are. Wether regular infantry / artillery/ engineers / signals and the like. I respect them all! If you have a thing against the paras or Royal Marines that’s your problem!
