Cheers mate, this is the robot I had mentioned somewhere earlier on this thread. The THEmIS is nicknamed “the Mule”, meaning it can carry 400 to 800 kilos. Troops, food, munitions or wounded. The list is not exhaustive. Hats off for the Estonians.
French to order THEmIS in 2020.

This robot, able to carry heavy charges, was displayed just before the opening of the Bastille Day parade, along with other robots and/or drones. Didn't know however that it was built by the Estonians.

That was the parts waiting to be filled and the side view: Now the front view with the 'preying area' in the back ground (next to the toilets). One of the armed escorts making safe his weapon. Hopefully I will have a weapons locker coming tonight or tomorrow morning to lock their weapons away. Believe me when I tell you that I have to show them how to make their weapons safe first .

Barkhane neutralizes five jihadists during an operation of opportunity;* French commando seriously wounded

The last few days have been turbulent in the Liptako-Gourma region in central Mali, where the G5 Sahel Joint Force and the Barkhane Force led operations Pagnani 2 and Bourgou 4. For example, on 15 and 16 November, the Malian Armed Forces [FAMa] claimed that 19 terrorists had been killed during a search operation in the Ouenkoro sector [Mopti region] after the attack on the village. of Bidi. In Burkina Faso, in the border province of Loroum, local forces also conducted a search operation in the Yorsala Forest in response to an ambush targeting one of their patrols. According to the report put forward by the Burkinabe staff, 32 jihadists, in total, were neutralized during "intense fighting lasted several hours". Two soldiers died there. At the same time, movements of terrorist armed groups [GAT], most likely belonging to the Islamic State in the Great Sahara [EIGS] were spotted during a reconnaissance mission of Barkhane in the Liptako Malian.

An operation called "opportunity" was therefore decided against a suspicious camp, located about twenty kilometers south of In Deliman, where an attack, claimed by the EIGS, made 49 killed among the Malian soldiers, the 1st November.

"After being dropped by helicopter, the Barkhane Force commandos infiltrated at night through difficult terrain. In the early morning, the assault was given with the support of helicopters [attack] Tiger desert battle group Aérocombat, "says the General Staff of Armies [EMA]. During this action, five terrorists were put out of action. In addition, four motorcycles, AK-47 assault rifles and "numerous resources [explosives, magazines, bulletproof vests, etc.]" were seized and destroyed.

Unfortunately, a French commando was seriously injured during this assault. "Immediately taken care of and then evacuated from the area of action, he was quickly repatriated to France where he is currently cared for at the Percy military hospital", says the EMA, which does not specify if the vital prognosis the soldier remains engaged. In addition, on November 18, 7 Malian soldiers were killed in fighting against jihadists near the Niger border. "As part of a bilateral operation [called" Tongo-Tongo "] to track down terrorists on the Mali / Niger border, a FAMa patrol was hung on November 18, 2019 in Tabankort," the US military said. Malian major. After initially reporting 7 killed and 15 wounded in their ranks, and assuring that, with the support of Barkhane, Malian and Nigerian troops had "resumed the initiative on the ground in Tabankort", the FAMa gave a new assessment of the fighting, this 19th of November. "During this clash the FAMa deplore 24 dead, 29 wounded and material damage. On the enemy side there are 17 terrorists killed, a hundred suspects apprehended in the hands of Nigerian forces in Tiloa and 70 motorcycles destroyed, "said the staff malignant, via a statement.

Today in 1958 Mali becomes an "autonomous state within French Community" before becoming independent on 22nd Sept.1960. Believe me when I tell you that nearly all those whom I spoke to when I was over there the first time working for G4S told me that they regret no longer being governed by France.
To be quite honest, in my humble opinion, the Jihadists in the north is the best thing that could happen to Mali since their independence. Not because they are killing innocents or destroying world heritages, but because of the MINUSMA which was deployed there in April 2013. With them they brought local jobs, money and income for businesses and home owners. All the MINUSMA office personnel, and you can take my word for it there are a lot of them, from various countries, all live in villas in town. All have one guard during the day and two at night.

Alright, the soldiers on the ground, with the exception of the US and of course the French, have been accused of 'holing up' and biding their time until their tour is over. But without the MINUSMA, Mali would be slowly slipping back to the middle ages.

Nothing to do with Mali but today was also the day in 1642 the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman discovers Van Diemen's land*. And it just so happens that I am reading a book called English Passengers which although I've only just started it, promises to be a great book. It's written by Matthew Kneale and is set in late 1850's. The plot (it's a Satire - humor) set around the search of the origins of the Garden of Eden which is believed to be in the mountain ranges of Van Diemen's Land.*

* Van Diemen's land is Nowadays known as Tasmania.

I think it goes without saying that it's Sunday and I'm not going to the Gym, so I can ramble on a bit :sneaky:

Van Diemen's Land was the original name used by most Europeans for the island of Tasmania, ... in honour of Anthony van Diemen, Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies, who had sent Tasman on his voyage of discovery.

I thoroughly agree with you and wiki on this Volt. The island was discovered by Abel Tasman and named Van Diemen's land in 1642...

A very sad day for the French army.

The victims were from these regiments:
• 5e Régiment d’hélicoptères de combat (Pau)
• 4e Régiment de chasseurs (Gap)
• 93e Régiment d’artillerie de montagne (Varces)
• 2e Régiment étranger de génie (St-Christol)
