Yes... Two légionnaires cavaliers KIA in the same region of Mali in a matter of a few days. RIP.
As the regimental song says:
“Ils ont servi honnêtes et fidèles, au premier étranger de cavalerie.”

As the regimental song says:
“Ils ont servi honnêtes et fidèles, au premier étranger de cavalerie.”
And more precisely in the 3rd couplet (verse) :

Un légionnaire tombe, frappé d'une balle,
Adieu mes parents, mes amis,
Toutes mes fautes, je les ai expiées,
Au Premier étranger de cavalerie.

A legionnaire falls, struck by a bullet,
Goodbye my parents, my friends,
All my faults, I have atoned (*) for them,
At the First foreign cavalry.

(*) I have wiped my slate clean.

It's actually more the next verse :

Sur sa tombe, une simple croix s'élève
Sur laquelle ces seuls mots sont inscrits
Il a servi honnête et fidèle
Au Premier étranger de cavalerie

On his grave, a simple cross rises
On which these singles words are inscribed
He served honourable and faithful
With the First foreign cavalry.

In my post above, I replaced the singular (il a servi honnête et fidèle) by plural (Ils ont servi, honnêtes et fidèles) for those two Recmen KIA in Mali. One was Ukrainian and the second French (possibly in the Legion with an alleged Canadian or Swiss nationality).

Mali ambush: Gunmen kill 24 in attack on convoy

An extract from the article:
"On Saturday two UN peacekeepers were also killed when a logistics convoy was targeted in the north of the country. The UN has 13,000 troops in Mali."

[Doing what? Most of them are from 3rd world countries and are holed up in their bases getting good money and biding their time to before going home]
