I arrived at 3 cie in 81 (was monitor at Centre Amph). The two cannon were on the steps minus the carriages. l understood that they were found by the dive club. There were also two big f*ck off anchors. I assume the same story...

This is the current brevet for those in 3 coy who are qualified motorist/plongeur, but is it worn on uniform? Because I have never seen a picture of a Legionnaire with it on their uniforms, so please post it if you have, thanks.

You are only allowed to have 2 metal insignia on your uniform if I remember correctly. The exception being the REP which allows you to wear your BMP (Brevet Militaire Professionnel)

Your Para wings and one other which is usually your highest/toughest course. This is usually the company insignia. However if you have have done a commando instructor's course or an unarmed combat course, sniper, etc. you have to make a choice. It goes without saying that (example) if you're in the 3rd Cie REP as a corporal you will have your BPM, your wings and (back then) Nageur de reconnaissance or motoriste (nowadays they are combined). If you then go on to do a sniper course or a SAF course (or both) Which are courses more complexe than nageur de reconnaissance, you will naturally choose the latter.

All right i'll shut up...:p remember 2 of our guys did a French commado course, don't know what stage it was. They did get a badge. Was 85/86... Both fit lads though one went 29 commado & the other was a PTI.
Think they were allowed to wear it ..can't really remember....

Correct, but the uniform is a bit dated, especially as the REP now has a second fourragere. Pink Floyd sent me some photos of the presentation, I'll see if I can't find them tomorrow.

Where would the jungle course badge fall in precedence? Would it be considered equal with para wings?
I'm sure that there is a rule some where which says which brevet takes priority over which. However, if you are in the REP, it's your wings. OK, that was an easy one.
Let;s say 2 REI and a section MILAN. Everyone knows that you have Milan so top tight. Bottom left will be commando Guyane. Between CG and say sniper, I'd say CG because not everyone is going to get it.
In the end, although there must be certain rules, I'd say that it would depend on the individual.

But this REP man is wearing his Brevet d'Équipage Subaquatique, or what ever it is called, above his pocket.

SAF, you're quite right, perhaps it's because he isn't wearing any medals, not even défence nationale en bronze which is very unusual for a 1ère classe from his era. I say era because he is wearing his short jacket which was unique to the REP back in the 80's. In those days you were looking at 2 years to become 1ère classe. Nowadays it's 10 months.
Sorry I can't help any more than that.

Joe, here's a photo of A/Chef G. It's a few years old. He's wearing his stage commando above his wings due to the amount of gongs he has on the left side of his tenue. G was my first chef de group when I arrived in 3Cie. Hard man, but fair...he demanded 100%, no excuses!

3Cie...Out of the Calvi newspaper 1990 or 1991 summer tenue, 14 July more than likely. A couple of deserters in the photo, wonder where they are now. I'm just below the word Kepi

He was a S/C when I arrived. He took an instant disliking to me and the feeling was mutual.

Speciality brevet comes before a commando brevet ( it's possible that a legionnaire has done a couple of commando courses during his carear )
The BMP badge on the old uniforms were in cloth and woren on the arm above the rank stripes (bronze silver and gold)
With the new uniforms and the BMP in metal, there's no other option but to wear in on the torse

so what was the hardest commando course? I mean was there say a course "Commando" Jungle & say another in Africa? I saw a video showing i think guys doing such a course in djibouti.
also... i have seen videos of the French marine commandos who wear their cap badge like the British marines above the left eye doing Commando courses but are they the same as the legion?
