When I saw the photo, I was instantly reminded of "The Southern comfort" movie.
Everything about my post was hypothetical, and my thoughts are pretty close to what you wrote.

Great film; definitely one of my favorites.

Home. A little nameless bayou about 5 minutes (by boat) from my house.

Hmm setting man's house on fire because he refused to make them a diner...while being armed and dress in official army uniform, after robbing a train ... pretty much fits definition you quoted. :).
I guess they were throwing around the southern accent all over. Probably drunk after successful action, not caring much to bland in. What happened with grandpa after that?
Was that cavalry hat on you part of contingent grandpa robbed that day? :D

He was captured, spent the rest of the war at various POW camps, and was finally released 3 months after the war ended. I'm not entirely sure why.
