This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the parade will be simplified. No vehicles and a limited volume of troops on foot, including the Legion band.
Some detachments of foreign countries will also be present: those having provided assistance to treat French COVID-19 patients (Austria, Germany, Luxemburg and Switzerland) and the United Kingdom via a detachment of the RAF, for the 80th anniversary of the Appeal of 18 June launched from London by Gen De Gaulle.
By coincidence, 2020 is also the 130th anniversary of his birth and the 50th anniversary of his death.

A pretty sad state of affairs if you ask me. I saw on the French news that Pdr Macron was going to put the health service to honor this year. Which will of course include the military doctors and nurses. As Rapace has said, there will be a fly past by the Red Arrow and the Patrouille de France - hopefully the PdF will not get the smoke mixed up this year.

I remember when I first joined the forum, writing a piece about Eva Joly who is Norwegian born and represented the "Greens" party in the French Presidency in 2012?
Any way I remember her coming out with a statement saying that she would much prefer that the 14th of July would be represented by the scouts (boys and girls) and the social services; rather than having the military parade down down the Boulevard. Before adding that that was the way it was done in Norway.
Well Ms Joly, it looks as though you have got your way..

Gentlemen, a gentle reminder. The thread was opened originally to update the members about the next Bastille Day Parade in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. I moved all other non-related posts to Crawdad's “home of derailed threads" that was created for this purpose by our Cajun friend. Feel free to keep on debating there, of course.

De Gaulle is dead?
Well I never heard that... Here I was thinking that the Gaullisme is still alive and kicking...
Every morning when I wake, I feel, I have the “gaule”. Fidèle compagnon du rut, depuis ma puberté.. Tu vas me manquer. Mince alors !
Suppose i will have to stick my c*ck in a cold tin of spam from now on... Jesus, Mary, Joseph, ffs!

The 2* Regiment de Dragons will be the star of the day for the 14 th of July ceremony
Specialist in N.B.R.C., they supplied an important logistic and help against the COVID -19 crap
Check out the regiments site for some cool photos, to have an Idea what kind of job they do

They, we do too, need to put down this Soros' attempt to take out Western Civilization with a Marxist Revolution.

GD Shame we experienced the Same Here, 4th of July, our Independence, was protested heavily with the complete Idiocy calling the USA Illegitimate, same wave sweeping the UK, (by the way, what the Feck was Prince Harry thinking), and France

Rapace, like these photos are great and close to home. My wife Served in The 1st Marine Corps Division Band. Don't know if it is the same in the Legion, but Marine Corps Band Members are fully trained in combat and are the rear guard element for the Commanding Generals.

It's not connected with situation in US. I don't hear anyone seriously talking about totally defunding police. I here some idiots talking about even remove police, but that is just really small percentage of as I said idiots (even less than 99.99 :)). Police spending money on totally unnecessary and stupid things like military grade gear and all other toys they want. Do you really think they need all that gear? I never saw they using that or have need for it. Not in USA. And the lake training and control. Smartest thing would be to redirect some of that money.

As for military ...I'm not hiding that I'm liking green uniform but not blue. I didn't hear anyone talking about defunding military and I don't think its OK to connect these two things. If anyone talking about cut of spending on military they talking about not starting stupid wars from which only benefits military industrial complex and many of them are started just because beast need to be fed. I never heard anyone saying "cut pay for soldiers" which are already close to minimum. But I believe that you USMCRET don't believe minimum wage should exist. Do you?

George Soros? I mean he is 90y old. Do you really think he has so much influence? I think that group he represented and was portrayed in media as head, still have influence on world (probably more than ever) but Soros as individual certainly doesn't anymore.

Thousands?! A few hundreds at most. Let’s always take what Breibart writes or says, not with a grain but a handful of salt. Is it still Bannon running the show?
But it’s true that protesters (a mix bag of “gilets jaunes”, Black bloc, etc., as usual) clashed with the police after the ceremony. Not really the topic of the thread though.
Members of the MLE are fully trained soldiers. They can drop their instrument and take a FAMAS (or a HK-416 now) and become infantrymen. I see that some of them are a bit overweight, though... :)
