Col Rondy passed away yesterday, aged 94. Then a Lt, he was the chief-medic of 1er BEP (Bataillon étranger de parachutistes), and participated in particular in the battle of Dien Bien Phu, from the moment the battalion was dropped on 21 Nov 1953, till the end on 7 May 1954.
In the picture below, he's seen next to a wounded legionnaire in the DBP region (before the beginning of the battle itself), filling in a medevac form (in French Fiche médicale de l'avant).

I’m sure I met him 1993 when we were doing the renovations/extensions on the 2e REP museum in Calvi. A few days before St. Michel, a large group of 1er BEP/REP Anciens (which included the legendary Roger Faulques) came by to have a chat, and a look at our work. They were very pleased when we showed them around. Colonel Tomatis was escorting them.
