It would be much worse. What lockdown measures are currently taken?

Hopes are one a realistic predictions in this case looks completely different. You would just start getting serious troubles around Easter. How he can say that country would be good to go? He know that isn't possible, you know that (I hope you do) and I know that. If he said 4 july that still not realistic but I would understand that.
I understand that he need to put some optimism in people, but that statement was just blunt lying of nation. Also it looks that he care only about economy.

Other then that I believe he is doing bast he can't to help America. This is definitely not Trump's fault and that is not much he can do about it. It's more whole American system which was great in normal situations, but it would fail greatly in this one. Not American people. not even politician or multinational companies in this case. Its just way system is organized.

Maybe i'm wrong. I hope I am. New York is highly dense and it fate may not mirror on other big cities.
The state is on a semi lock down and only essential things remain open like grocery stores and gas stations. For New-Orleans there is a problem worse than the virus itself, the entire city is based on the service industry, restaurants, bars, hotels, and big conventions. New Orleans is where the world comes to party and we just had millions here for Mardi Gras in Late February. In New-Orleans there will be most certainly 85% or greater unemployment for the near future.
New York is a very populous place, millions of people in one area, New-York City has the population of all of Louisiana. Now they are going to try keep the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island separated and limit travel. Here in the south, Florida is checking licenses plates for people from Louisiana and turning them around.

For the first time in modern history we are going to see a united front against one of the major empires of the world. More and more countries will want to seek retribution against China. And China won't cooperate and will continue to agitate the situation until things get to a breaking point. I believe WW3 is on the horizon.

Especially if Trump remains in office. I'll withhold on my opinions about that.

China has the blood of the world on its hands. They lied, covered up, and continue to lie. The US and the UK and, I imagine, many nations in the EU want answers from those lying bastards.

Glimpse of hope for US. Yesterday there was 1000 less new infected in comparison to day before and even 200 less then day before that. Also there was significantly less deaths. If you guys succeed to hold numbers new of cases from raising more than around 20k per day and do that couple days in row, that would be really good sing.

I think mine and Ex Yu countries would experience significant rise of new cases in next week or two.
Having in mind how fragile our medical system is, if that happens in greater numbers we would be in bad situation.

I'm gonna be fine even if I get virus. You take care yourself. No crowded places, contacts only from distance and don't touch your face. Masks don't do much (but everyone are crazy about them). Gloves even lesser. Is not spread by touch! No point of putting on gloves if you gonna touching your mouth. Virus probably sticks better on gum then on skin.
Spraying streets and shoes is also non effective which people do out of panic. We need to disinfect frequently touched surfaces (Or places where known infected was in).

We hear those measures over and over every day and many people are still idiots. Just last night on my FB popped up pictures of my friends brother. He is helping old folks from neighborhood by bringing them groceries. (here older then 65 are not allowed to go out at all). Great. Good deed, everyone should do something like that. You don't have to put on FB for everyone to see, but OK. Knowing him i'm not surprised.
Thing which pissed me off is that in every picture he hugs old people with some of them even touching face to face. I wouldn't be surprised if he even kissed them! I'm know his IQ is not great , by that is too much. In comments below everyone liking, putting comments of support and nobody noticing obvious stupidity.
If I said to him to stop that in future he would be mad at me also everyone in comments would crucified me.
So how to say to fool that he is fool without insulting him?

I'm also worried about my father. He is 62, been heavy smoker for most of his life (lucky stopped completely couple years ago). Little bit overweight and have diabetes. Also he has problem with hard very recently. Took medication and now is fine. But he is in risky category. To matter be worse my mother works in local grocery store. :(

Even though this is a Covid thread, I was wondering, is there no way to contact a French speaker via internet and have conversations with her/him?

Right on! I think that is a great idea to go as soon it opens back up. Probably good time between then and the next couple of years. But each in their own time.

Have you directed you French learning towards what you may expect to be learning in basic training? Like learning the Code of Honor.

That's a great idea since having conversations is where learning is shown. I know a French speaker who is also a polyglot that I plan to reach out to and see if he will talk with me in French a few hours a week.

Back on topic, as I mentioned above in the thread, the French authorities have decided a complete lockdown until 15 April. However, keeping in mind that the scientific advisers recommended last week a 6 week lockdown (from 17 March), one can reasonably expect that it will remain in force till the end of April (the government just doesn't want people to panic by announcing it in one go). Then, assuming it's not further extended, it'll take like 1 month for things to get back to a (more or less) normal situation. IMHO, planning to join in June is the soonest reasonable date so far. However, if you can, remain flexible, and just wait for the official end of the lockdown and add one month to it.

Well I was hoping to find a French girlfriend but in my country they not in my region. I think that in "babbel" app you have this feature but after you finish basic they ask for money.

Well yeah I wrote it all 3 or 4 times when I first started learning French try'd memorize it but unsuccessfully maybe now after I'm way past basic I will succeed.

Perhaps the Swedes have gotten their act together and as soon as someone has the symptoms they have the means to test them and quarantine them if necessary. To be quite honest, I think that France was caught off guard. I mean things like calling the SAMU, instead of your local GP (Doctor), or the Urgency at your local hospital is a good idea. Except, and you don't have to have gone to Cambridge to work this out, their phones were soon saturated without enough people (qualified) to answer the phones. When I say qualified, I'm not talking about someone who are specialists in viruses, virology. No it was only later that they started to give briefings about what the symptoms are and how they differ from influenza. And heaven help us if the person making the call spoke anything but French!
Will France have learned anything from their mistakes...?
:ROFLMAO:

You may want to carry this conversation on one of the many threads dedicated to the subject.

I read a good article off of the Drudge Report. It was about Submarines. They interviewed a French Admiral and he it is very likely those aboard the Submarines have zero idea of what's happening in the world and that the commanders would not tell the crews. They have been on long missile deterrent patrols out in the deeps. I guess sub crews are like mushrooms, in the dark and fed shit

I think you are wrong about feeding part .Guys on submarines actually get best food compared to all other units of any army. It's part of keep them sane in those condition.
But yes... you are right they are probably isolated from shit we going through.

Ha, you can have the best Chow in the world, these guys do, but when it comes to Top Side, they have no clue and truthfully, they do not need to know. Why do they need to know? All they need to know if NATO, sorry Dusa, says hey here's the strike package, spin them up and get'em in the air, especially if pointed at China!!
