I read that book 'marching with the Devil' and the author said that one of the infantry company's in the 13th Demi Brigade was an amphibious unit and it had pictures of Legionnaires receiving basic dive training. Do all members of the unit receive dive training? I thought the unit's infantry complement was made up of soldiers from the REP on a rotational basis. Does the unit have a fixed infantry force or is it only the Armoured Recon unit?

Cheers

Every company in the 13DBLE was an infantry company with the exception of the 2nd, the service company, and the Escadron.....which obviously isn't a company. Probably nageur de combat and probably rare.....the 13DBLE were more desert rats.

Yes ... I was part of this amphibious development group in 88/89 ... officially it was also called CRAP like those in 2nd REP but we were not SE.A.L.s only SE.L.s (no Air - even if we approach the territory by helicopter also) and the official name whas "Commando de Reconnaisance d'Appui et de Protection" CRAP in the 2nd REP their name was "Commando de Recherche et d'Action en Profondeur" CRAP and commonly everybody call as CRAB.s because our badge was a crab with a 2 inside for 2e Section (3e CIE).

Can you tell us little bit more about yourself. We really like actual legionnaires here, but currently is shortage of them. Especially active legionnaires. :(

I am a former Legionnaire (now you know where i was) after i worked more than 15 years as Executive Protection Specialist but i am not anymore, now i am a tax optimizer ... i found these post (regarding divers in 13th DBLE) by chance when i'm looking for something on internet so i decided to answer because the persons who really know about my former group are rare.
