Well, we survived this time round. But it seems unreasonable to tax boss time for free. This could be leading us to subscription. Is this an appropriate time to go for a little poll on subscription ?

ya know i dont think that is such a bad idea. not only would it help with the payment of the site, it would also hopefully keep out unwanted hackers....i hope. i would have no objection to a small subscription fee, if we all put in to it it would be a fairly small amount.

HTML:
I changed my mind ...so OK...another try; if I see it's useless, I'll close it...sad...

I don't think many of you realise that it was a CLOSE CALL that this board was literally closed by the former webmaster.

So, stop giving this issue "the wide berth" (avoiding it).

Voluntary subsriptions so that each of us, especially Anciens (except moderators who volunteer their participation on request of the boss), put "their money where their mouth is": 10 euros or seven UK pounds by money order for one year sounds very reasonable with anywhere from 100 euros or seventy UK pounds for the boss by 10 out of the current 24 members should be a very meager just reward for the boss and all his troubles since a while back. Boss has not been consulted about this intiative.

Boss, we'll need your name and address to forward money order or by bank transfer. If that's a problem, subscription is obviously not an option.

Stand up and be counted

Just send mony with paypal !

Agreed, this is without a doubt the easiest way, and it entitles the boss to his keep his home address of the net. All you need to register is a bank account or credit card, and your privacy is assured. This is an old company, they are not out to rip people off, i've used them on many occasions and never had a problem.

I have them for 2 year snow - and neve rhad a problem, im happy with it....it is safe and if you dont want to found it with a credit card, you can found it over your bank account. All you need to get or send mony is a e-mail .

There is really no excuse for a small voluntary contribution by at least the anciens with the exception of the moderators, who moderate free of charge.
The others "Put your money where your mouth is".

But as said, payment doesnt solve this problem from happening in the future..

No, it might not, but i don't think that is the reason this was brought up. For this site to be run and the webspace to be rented it costs money, that is currently coming out of the webmasters pocket.
All we are saying, is that if he needs to pay for it and we are the ones enjoying it, why not pay the fee for him, all it would take is a buck a month from each of the long term members. There are quite a few so it all adds up. Frankly, this site is the only thing i really have to look forward to in the morning besides a hard day of training, and after i'm done i like to check it out at night, to see it go would be a big disappointment for me. Plus, i'm sure that every wannabee is looking forward to the day they can come on this site and tell the Anciens that they made it, i know i sure am.

The old bulletin board we used had a few security loop holes in it. In fact I did some research on this kid and the only boards he hacked were boards of the same type as our old one.

This tells me that he probably used a script to access weak spots in the BBoard. I've ran a few bulletin boards before, theres not alot you can do about these types of trolls... They think everything they do is innocent.

If all goes well I might just post his Yahoo! messenger ID and password.. I'll post it here if anyone likes.

I think payment to getting an account would be fair, as with donations only a few pay and the rest just allow the others to do it for them.

I think that you're failing to take the point of this thread.

The fact that the board has been restored is the starting point for small voluntary contributions (say 10 euros or more if you wish). The value of this board depends on the perception of value you attribute to it as an ancien or wannabe besides questions of equity between its members: "I won't do it if they don't".

Thank the boss for the reprieve and look into your soul, mate.

Also, I don't speak Viking so change your signature into English or French, the working language of the FFL. You might be encouraging others with inappropriate signature in their native language.

My signature reads "Damn those who think badly of it and the FFL."

Chrisd234,
Please PM me and those who want the gook's ID and password. It's tool late to parachute into Hanoi this morning (my earlier response to a call to invasion - or liberation - yesterday)

Again, you're missing the mark. The avatar can be understood: it's the signature that's in question, mate.

Fine Satyr. In this case, why not provide a translation of your signature for the 99.9% of contributors to this BBS that don't speak Danish ? Mine means « beware of the birds of prey, bearing down from the sky ». It was (and still is) the motto of the regiment I served with.

Thanks for the back-up, Patrick.
Do you get the message, SATYR ?
Please comply and no more will be said or held against YOU. :)

No problemo.
Just stick the English translation underneath your Viking signature.
We are trying to pre-empt any abuses in the future.

As an Ancien, i think the donations towards the site, is a good idea, how would i pay this Joe as i don't hold any credit cards, i can pay it through my own webmaster. That's through pay pal if you set it up, i haven't a problem with donations.
Chris, do your stuff with the little rice eater, hopefully your worst. As to the moderaters, your doing a great job. As to the wanabees, the moderators have the final say. As an Ancien i have to abide by there rules, show respect to the moderaters without them the site wouldnt run correctly. As to fish sauce, can't you cook anything else

I've never paid by internet so it would be the first time.
Can the boss or moderators clarify the procedure ?

So, I can assume the 'recipient' is the 'boss' and that he has an 'paypal account' up and running.
