It was written in a haste...
Comrade Marx shares the same birthday as me...
His daughter, Laura, and her husband, Paul Lafargue, commited suicide together.
They were burried in Le père Lachaise cemetery, in Paris (as was Jim Morrison)
Any one know who was, la mère Lachaise?
Will not give the reply until...

24th February 1942 The battle of Los Angles takes place:

On the night of February 24, 1942, only two months after the attack at Pearl Harbor, the skies of Los Angeles burst open with anti-aircraft fire and spotlights flooded the night sky looking for rumored Japanese planes. A total blackout was ordered in the city and air raid sirens were sounded off, warning people of danger.

After the 'raid' ended, the Navy Secretary told press that the incident was a false alarm triggered by "war nerves" and anxiety. In 1949 the Coast Artillery Association explained that the incident was caused by a stray weather balloon.

Despite the false alarm five people did die during the supposed battle, three in car accidents from the panic and two from heart attacks related to the stress of the incident.

Also on this day in 1848 our very own Louis-Philippe Ier - the King who created the Legion- abdicates (he didn't really have a choice), which started the 2nd Republic. We are now into France's 5th Republic.

Louis Philippe I (6 October 1773 – 26 August 1850) was King of the French from 1830 to 1848. ... His popularity faded as economic conditions in France deteriorated in 1847, and he was forced to abdicate after the outbreak of the French Revolution of 1848. He lived out his life in exile in the United Kingdom.

On Friday 25 February, 1949 Robert Mitchum one of my favourite film stars was freed from a Los Angeles county prison farm after serving a 2 month sentence for marijuana possession. The star of Cape of Fear and Night of the Hunter had been caught smoking a joint at a party.

Now in the UK it would be a slap on the wrist.

On Monday 28 February1944, Hanna Reitsch the world's first female test pilot visited Adolf Hitler at Berchtesgaden. As an ardent Nazi she proposed the creation of the German equivalent of a kamikaze squad of suicide bombers.

The Fuhrer was less than enthusiastic about the idea.

Also on this leap year in 1784 le Marquis de Sade transferred from Vincennes fortress to the Bastille.
Best known for his erotic works, which combined philosophical discourse with pornography.

He often depicted sexual fantasies with an emphasis on violence and criminality, as well as blasphemy against the Catholic Church. He is the author of 'The 120 days of Sodom', among others.

The words sadism and sadist are derived from his name.

As far as I know he died in prison, in solitary confinement deprived or his computer quills and parchment.

On Sunday 3 March 1918 at Brest-Litovsk now in modern day Belarus, Russia signed a treaty with the Central Powers ending its participation in the First World War. Russia's involvement alongside its allies France and Britain, had resulted in heavy losses against Germany.

Comment Self.
The 2nd World War losses were even worse for the Russians some 28 Million including civilians,
We could not have won without the Russians.

My Great Uncle Died near Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in December 1943. On the German side. The Eastern front was a slaughter and meat grinder.
Good soldiers died on all sides of the conflict. I think towards the end knowing it was a hopeless situation they fought for each other. There is no greater bond in combat. Good to see you around snafusmite.
