So what is the fight in this part of Afrique looking like? Is this most likely where fresh legionnaires will be sent? Which unit goes there the most? (I will be gunning for that unit)

Support and logistics and it's amongst them the most casualties.
Barkhane has all the different armed services of the French military Sea and Land. There are only 4,500 on zone at a time in a zone that covers the likes of, Gibraltar to Moscow and most of is sand
At the moment, am not sure if any Legion elements are present, might be wrong or maybe just some senior rank
Legion has 2 Infantry regiments now and there is the REP, REG for demining and other engineering duties, REC for convoy escort.
We all do, more or less the same duties with some particularities.
There's a lot of competion amongst Divisions to get chosen to go, but that's a political matter.

There is also the on going conflict in Libya and some one has to loose. Wont be suprised if they join the Sahel in the south. France and the international community supports the government and it is a Linyan general with his army leading the rébellion. He has a lot of fire power.
Algeria is on the edge of another civil war. The radicals amongst them will do their best to be heard. If they fail. They will take refuge in Barkhane terrority with their weapons.
Most of the fire power used by the Jihadists in Barkhane so far, has come from these 2 countries. Libya and Algeria
This is going to go on for years

Very interesting write up about Operation Barkhane in English.
Biased? it does not seem to flatter the UN.

Having an organization like the UN is brilliant in theory but in practice it's a mess. The UNSC is the biggest joke in existence, the UN needs to change its mandate and actually be pro-active, not just jump in after sh!t hits the fan.

The hotages have arrived back in France (2 French teachers and the South Korean woman) They were tourists and on a Safari. The zone where they were captured was not RED until the morning after
RED = not recommended for visiting by the french consulate
---------------
6 Catholics and the priest shot dead in a church somewhere in Burkina Faso
There might be in the short future a Barkhane redoplyment.

Agreed, it was not red, but orange. There is no definite "border", it's a rough guide. Their stupidity led to 2 soldiers getting killed.

It is RED and ORANGE
Watched the explaining last night on the news. ...even the journalists were a bit lost
The critereas of passing from orange to red are...?
It's a minute by minute appraisal by...Quai d ' Orsay (foriegn minister)
Anyway. ...
It was explained that. ..
It could of been a lot worse
By taking hotages
A lot of Barkhane ressources are used up finding them
Drones air craft satlites etc
The enemy know this and use the oppertunity to strike else where
The catholic church was a clear message. ..Islam only

For those who do not yet understand French, there is a rope between the two coffins. This rope was what attaches the two divers to make sure that they do not get separated in murky waters.
Very symbolic.

Yes correct, called in French ligne de vie (lifeline). In the end, the song is “Loin de chez nous, en Afrique”, an old French military song. There's also a “Legion version” of the same song, with different lyrics.

Notice the Scottish thistle. This is the badge of Commando Kieffer. They were trained in Achnacarry, Scotland. Ouistreham was there doing on D-Day.

Cdo Kieffer is a recently created Commando Marine. It's a reactivation of the ‘historical’ Cdo Kieffer which landed on D-Day at Ouistreham-Riva Bella (~ 15 km north of Caen), on Sword Beach. Lieutenant de Vaisseau (French Navy rank equivalent to Captain in the Army, or Lieutenant in the US and Royal Navy) Augustin Hubert was KIA that day and gave his name to Cdo Hubert, that suffered those two losses last week in Burkina Faso.
The ‘modern’ Cdo Kieffer, along with more recent Cdo Ponchardier, are support units with technical specialists in different domains (signals, electronic warfare, drones, K9, weapons, etc.), working on behalf to the 4 assault Cdos (all named after officers KIA in WW2 or Indochina : Jaubert, Treppel, de Montfort, de Penfentenyo).
