Combat? La guerre au corvee? Lots of combat FAMAS cleaning, when you finally do get to shoot people someone lets drop that you are the REP and the enemy go and hide, or you get to corner the enemy and chase him through the desert for three days then they bomb him and leave you to fill the body bags...! If you are really lucky you might find a B...B... ;) who will fight back (very rare teddies) (anyone notice Beaus politically correct Boo Boo? cool eh?

The ones ya have to watch for are the ones who run away and leave the place mined..
As for becoming a clerk first... you should be so lucky! :)

You could also join the US Army/National Guard Special Forces for a taste of soldiering.
Correcto. Think of it: under serious and swearing orders for a weekend at a time. It'll most likely will be a culture shock...and rude awakening....It makes complete sense "to dip before you commit"... ;)

There's no such thing as one weekend a month anymore, and there never was in the SF units. They've always put more time in than the other components. They have to stay up to the standards of their active duty counterparts, and they do manage it. There's no time to train up if they need you, unlike other reserve/NG units.

With all that's going on now, you'll be deployed if you join any guard or reserve unit in the states, and more frequently than most if you join a NG SF unit. Special Operations assets are tight at the moment, since they are used so heavily.

Rumor has it that the CIA has been trying to raid the active and NG SF units for personnel too, for their own special operations force. It's rumor though.

So if you join a NG SF unit, expect to be deployed. It'll probably be as soon as you graduate the Q-course. The plus side is that it won't be five years at a time. I think 6 months is the usual deployment.
