Im currently 17 years old and deciding between the British army, Royal Marines and the legion, I was wondering how basic training in the legion ranks in comparison to these two in terms of difficulty. In particular the army as I assume the RM is in somewhat of its own league.

Hi and welcome
From what i have heard. ..
The Royal Marines are to be disbanded (usless Sods and have no purpose)
The British Army does not exist any more (it's a sugared down version of a Commonwealth army,i n reality)
And will soon to be integrated into the U.S.of America as a satellite state (Usless Sons of Arse-Holes)
The Legion will always be here, until we get over ridden by the Ruskies
Oops, too late

Get swole, get smart, and pick the one that fits your agenda. Heard Royal Marines are pretty dope, make the US Marines look a little soft. I did get to meet and train with some Brit Paratroops, and that was an experience. Their uniforms looked way cooler than ours, except our berets were better (slanted over my eye and most of that side of my face like an a$$hole). And generally more fit. There are fatties in the 82nd, didn't see any fatties in the Brit's party.

Hello,
I hope everyone is doing well.
I would appreciate answers to these questions.
Thank you

1. Why is basic training for the British army 26 weeks long as opposed to 16 for the Legion and 13 for the US Marines?

2. Is the Legion using the HK416 in basic training? If not, how widespread has the procurement of it been for the Legion? I've seen pictures of troops from the 13th DBLE and 2nd Rep equipped with the rifle but a soldier from 2nd Rep pictured here was equipped with a FAMAS. https://thedefensepost.com/2019/04/10/france-mali-troops-kill-30-militants-gourma-operation/

3. Regarding the language barrier, has the legion really ironed out a process to ensure things run smoothly during training operations? What happens if training operations are hindered because guys in your unit still cannot communicate effectively in French? I specifically mean post-basic advanced training for things like urban combat and counter-insurgency operations in the regiment you are posted to.

In reply to this crass post of Le petit Caporal, semper idem ! He should read the revered Adjt Stoeng's comments on RM and FFL service. I respect the FFL but ; Le petit vous avez une folie de grandeur -quelle sottise.;) Je n'aime pas votre betise. Ca me donne le cafard.:D Now it is time for a Gin and T followed by steak and chips. Then I can remain being a miserable grumpy old git. After all I took your bait hook line and sinker. But who cares ?

1. 26 weeks is to become a fully badged infantryman in the Brit army. The 16 of the Legion and 13 of the USMC are basics only and do not include the specialist training time. Once you've done your 4 months in Castel with the Legion you will do specific regimental training and FTS this ranges from 2-4 months on top of your 16 weeks, then only are you regiment ready. Not sure of the USMC or how long their specific MOS takes. The Brits do 13 weeks at Catterick before moving on to specialist training.

2. A friend of mine is busy with FTS in 2REP and they have had plenty of trigger time on the 416s about equal to the FAMAS. But non firing drills and blanks are mainly done with the FAMAS. But my other mate in 13DBLE hasnt fired a 416 since Castel 6 months ago but the other companies have been using it extensively, so it all depends on the allocation.

3. They have to streamline the French, imagine teaching drills to 40 different nationalities at once. But you will be drilled and all paperwork and orders in French. There is classroom instruction of French in Castel.

Joined the A@SH with two guys from Clyde Bank, couple of the best shoplifters I have ever meet, also one of their main targets was tins of strong glue as both liked the bag remember it popping one night face and hair covered in clue also loved poppers!
They never finished basic training what a surprise but the comedy show was fun to watch still can make me giggle thinking about their antics.
