Thousands of Pics.
From 1990 to 1995.According to a story I read about the Pic, He was a Legion Deserter?. Named KIT FREEMAN. I do not know if this is true, But I seen a 1 minute old video, that might still be floating around. He was being interviewed and asked why he Deserted. He said to fight in that war?. 1992/3?.
Very good site, just to surf on croatian army photos there and found a soldier in a cro uniform wearing a 2REP insignia on his berret (we called them foreign volunteers). just a tought......
I re-watched it again last night, Perun do you remember a French guy I believe it was who fought in Vukovar with Zadro and his men and was killed I believe right after the fall? Jean something I believe his name was. I'll see if I can download chico, would love to watch it.Dear DCLXVI,
We call it “War for Independence†or “War for Homeland“. I don't know much about that guy but if he fought for my country ( with honour!) he has my highest respect !!! If he was just another criminal - the Balkans are full of them – God will find him eventualy ;-)
Regarding the desertion question, his fellow soldiers are the only ones to judge him, I think. BTW, saying that “somehow or another decided to desert and fight the ethnic cleansing war…†would be like someone saying for you “
so he joined the Legion to go and kill kids and rape women in Africa…†or I am being a bit emotional about it? I'm shure you meant no disrespect, neither did I, but you said it kind of... flippantly.
Saša, that's the photo I mentioned ! I've seen that documentary long time ago as well (however i'd take it with a litle bit of salt..).
There is a very interesting guy in that documetary, his nickname is Chico - he is one of their COs.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eduardo_Rózsa-Flores and a movie about him/them.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0251636/ ( seen it, liked it..)
It looks like he was „ a revolutionary by birth“ if there is a such thing… Also, foreign volunteers have their veteran association in Croatia, here's the link:
http://www.usddr.org/
(their official headwear are green berets, insignia above the right eye ! Sounds familiar?)
Yes of course, his name was Jean-Michel Nicolier ! Here is the link on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Michel_Nicolier
His story is a lot different then Chico's, or Kit Freeman's (if that really is his name).
He was a civilian with no military expirience or skills, and became one of the symbols of the defence of the city. May he rest in peace!
On youtube and in french: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izUoMIAlxE4
Did you ever find out what happened to Chris?. I heard he was pinched on return to the UK on warrant and did some time, then vanished. Would love to find out more. Came across as a nice lad on the film.SASA92: This is our it Freeman I mentioned. The photo is the one I was thinking, The vid I havent found yet, But I remembered seeing that Dogs of war one. This is indeed Kit freeman. So I can assume then He was Former Legion and not a deserter. Also, I do not know if this is his real name, Legion name or a made up name. Either way, I have seen him in another photo, too
